A nonogram 10x10 grid with clues in the margins and thick guide lines every five cells

Nonogram 10x10: the classic grid size

Nonogram 10x10 is the classic size: ten rows and ten columns, up to five runs per line, and a picture you can finish on a coffee break. Every grid is checked so it solves without guessing. No app, no sign-up and no interstitial before play; it works offline and every cell can be filled or crossed from the keyboard.

How to play Nonogram

  1. The numbers beside each row and above each column give the lengths of the runs of filled cells in that line, in order. Neighbouring runs are separated by at least one empty cell.
  2. Tap or click a cell to fill it. Switch to Cross mode (or use the right mouse button) to mark cells you know are empty. Drag along a row or column to paint a run of cells.
  3. A clue dims once its line shows exactly those runs.
  4. Filling a cell that is empty in the picture is a mistake. With "Show mistakes as you play" on it is marked at once; otherwise Check marks it.
  5. Hint names one cell that the clues settle and explains why. Undo and redo step through your strokes.
  6. The puzzle is solved when the filled cells match the picture. Crosses are notes and never count against you.
  7. Every puzzle can be completed with line logic alone: no guessing is ever needed.

How to play a 10×10 nonogram

  1. Each clue lists the runs of filled cells in its row or column, in order, with gaps between.
  2. Fill cells that must belong to a run; cross cells that must be empty.
  3. Drag to paint a straight run. Right-click or the Cross toggle places crosses.
  4. On a phone, turn on Scroll to move the board with one finger without painting.
  5. Heavy lines every five cells help you count. Finish when every clue is satisfied.

Nonogram 10x10 strategy

Ten cells is long enough that few lines are fixed from the start, so overlap is the main tool.

Overlap on big clues

Work out the slack: line length minus the clue's runs minus one gap between each pair. A single run of 7 has 3 cells of slack, so its cells beyond the first 3 from either end, cells 4 to 7, are filled. A clue of 3 4 needs 8 cells, leaving 2 slack: the 3 fills cell 3 and the 4 fills cells 7 and 8. Any run longer than the slack gives you cells.

Edges and finished lines

A filled cell on the border belongs to the first run from that side, so fill its whole length and cross the cell after it. When a line shows all its runs, the clue dims; cross its remaining blanks so the crossing lines can use them.

Switch direction often

After a pass over the rows, do the columns. On 10×10, two or three rounds usually open the grid. Use the five-cell guides to count without mistakes, and turn off Show mistakes as you play in Settings if you want to solve without help, then use Check at the end.

Daily, stats and printables

This page plays 10×10 grids up to 560 px wide, the same size the Nonogram hub starts on.

The timer starts on your first stroke and pauses when you switch tabs. Stats per size stay in this browser: played, won, win rate, best and average time. Undo and Redo cover every stroke. The first two hints on a puzzle are free; if ads are switched on later, more hints offer a short ad or a 30-second wait. Wins come with share text, and random puzzles have a code such as A7K3Q that replays them.

Plays anywhere, no app, no account

The 10×10 nonogram keeps cells at least 36 px on a phone and scrolls sideways when needed, with a Scroll toggle so a drag does not paint. Tidy Puzzles runs entirely in your browser: there is no app to install, no account to create and no interstitial before you can play. After the first visit the game also works offline, because each puzzle is generated on your device from a seed. Every board can be played with the keyboard alone, on a phone or a desktop, and your stats and unfinished puzzles stay in this browser rather than on a server.

Frequently asked questions

How many runs can a 10x10 nonogram clue have?

Up to five runs per row or column. At most two rows and two columns are empty.

How long does a 10x10 nonogram take?

Often five to fifteen minutes, depending on practice. Your best and average times are saved in this browser.

Can I solve a 10x10 nonogram without guessing?

Yes. Every grid is verified by a line-logic solver, so one line at a time is always enough.

What happens when I fill a wrong cell?

With the default setting it is striped red and the Mistakes counter goes up. Clearing or crossing it removes the mark.

How do I paint without scrolling on a phone?

A one-finger drag paints by default. Turn on Scroll to move the board with a drag instead; a tap still marks a cell.
