2048 8x8 board with sixty-four cells and a long row of tiles from 2048 down to 16

Play 2048 8×8, the biggest board

2048 8×8 is the largest board we offer: 64 cells, the same classic rules and the same 2048 target. It is a marathon rather than a sprint, with room for very long chains and very high tiles if you keep going. Free, no app, no sign-up and no interstitial before play; it works offline and plays from the keyboard.

How to play 2048

  1. Slide every tile in one direction: swipe on the board, or press an arrow key or W, A, S, D.
  2. Two tiles with the same number merge into one tile with their sum when they touch during a slide. Each tile merges at most once per move.
  3. After every move a new tile appears in an empty cell: a 2 most of the time, a 4 about one time in ten.
  4. Your score is the sum of all merged tiles. Undo takes back one move.
  5. Reach the target tile to win. It is 2048 on most boards, 1024 on 3×3 (the largest tile nine cells can hold), and 4096 or 8192 on those variants.
  6. The game is over when the board is full and no slide can merge anything.
  7. To carry on past the target, turn on "Keep playing after reaching the target" in Settings before starting a game.

How to play 2048 on the 8×8 board

  1. Slide every tile with a swipe, an arrow key or W, A, S, D.
  2. Equal tiles that touch merge into their sum, once per tile per move.
  3. A new 2 or 4 appears in an empty cell after each move.
  4. Make a 2048 tile to win; press Keep playing to go for a higher tile.
  5. With 64 cells, the game ends only when the whole board is locked.

2048 8×8 strategy: efficiency over survival

On 8×8 you will rarely lose; the challenge is finishing in a sensible number of moves and not letting the board turn into a scattered field of mid-sized tiles.

One corner, one snake

Keep the largest tile in a corner and build a falling chain along the edge. An 8-cell row holds 2048 down to 16 on its own, so the chain rarely needs to turn. Keep everything else feeding towards it.

Merge in bulk

Early on, a single direction repeated a few times merges dozens of small tiles at once. Use your two main directions in quick alternation until the board is about half full; each move then does a lot of work.

Avoid rival big tiles

The most common way to waste an 8×8 game is to grow two or three 128s or 256s in different parts of the board. They take many moves to bring together. When you see a second large tile forming away from the corner, steer it towards the chain before it grows.

Reading small tiles

On a 360 px phone each 8×8 tile is about 36 px, and four-digit numbers print small. Every tile has its own colour step as well as its number, and the high-contrast theme adds outlines, so you can tell a 1024 from a 2048 at a glance.

Daily, stats and printables

The timer starts on your first move and pauses when you switch tabs. Stats are kept per board in your browser: played, won, win rate, best and average time, and best score, saved when a game ends in a win or a loss. The 8×8 board has its own stats, so a long 8×8 session does not dilute your 4×4 win rate.

Undo takes back one move. There are no hints, since 2048 has no single right move. Each game has a puzzle code such as A7K3Q; open it with ?p= to replay the same start and the same new tiles. The end panel copies a short result to share. There is no daily 2048 and no printable version.

Plays anywhere, no app, no account

The 8×8 board fits a phone screen without scrolling, so swipes always move the tiles, and the arrow keys or W, A, S, D work on any keyboard. Tidy Puzzles runs entirely in your browser: there is no app to install, no account to create and no interstitial before you can play. After the first visit the game also works offline, because each puzzle is generated on your device from a seed. Every board can be played with the keyboard alone, on a phone or a desktop, and your stats and unfinished puzzles stay in this browser rather than on a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2048 8×8 hard?

No, it is the most forgiving board. Losing is rare; the challenge is the length of the game and keeping the board organised.

How many moves does 2048 8×8 take?

At least about 930 moves to make 2048, as on any board, and usually more. Keep playing takes it much further.

Can I read the numbers on a phone?

Yes. Tiles are about 36 px on a 360 px phone, each value has its own colour, and the number is always printed.

Does my progress save if I leave?

Yes. The game in progress is saved on your device, and the timer pauses while the page is hidden.

Is there an 8×8 daily challenge?

No. 2048 has no daily here, but every game has a puzzle code you can share.
