How to play Minesweeper on a custom board
- Open Settings and choose Custom rows, Custom columns and Custom mines.
- Start a new game; the choices apply from the next board.
- Open any cell. It and its neighbours are always mine-free.
- Flag proven mines and chord satisfied numbers, as on any board.
- Clear every safe cell to win. Best times are kept for the custom board.
Minesweeper custom sizes and mine counts
Rows can be 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 24 or 30; columns the same plus 36 and 40. Mines can be 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 99, 120, 150 or 200. The default is 16×16 with 40 mines, the same as Intermediate.
The mine count is capped at a third of the cells outside the first-click area: (rows × columns − 9) ÷ 3, rounded down. A higher choice is lowered to that cap, so 5×5 allows at most 5 mines and 9×9 at most 24.
Difficulty depends mostly on density, the share of cells that are mines. For reference, Beginner is about 12 percent, Intermediate about 16 and Expert about 21. Below 10 percent the first click often clears most of the board; above 20 percent numbers run high, openings shrink and plain random boards need guesses more often. A small dense board such as 9×9 with 20 mines is good practice for the 1-2-1 and subset patterns.
No-guess mode is on by default for boards of up to 256 cells, so a custom 16×16 or anything smaller can be cleared by logic from the first opening. Larger custom boards use plain random layouts unless you set No-guess boards to All levels. At very high density the game may not find a guess-free layout; the note under the board tells you when that happens.
Daily, stats and printables
This page plays whatever size you set in Settings; your choice is remembered for the next game. Stats for the custom page are kept together, whatever the size.
The timer starts on your first move and pauses when you switch tabs. Stats per board size stay in this browser: played, won, win rate, best and average time.
Undo and Redo cover the whole game, even the first click. The first two hints on a puzzle are free; if ads are switched on later, more hints offer a short ad or a 30-second wait. Wins come with share text, and every random board has a code such as A7K3Q that replays it.
Plays anywhere, no app, no account
Large custom Minesweeper boards scroll and pinch-zoom inside their frame on a phone, and every cell can be opened or flagged from the keyboard. Tidy Puzzles runs entirely in your browser: there is no app to install, no account to create and no interstitial before you can play. After the first visit the game also works offline, because each puzzle is generated on your device from a seed. Every board can be played with the keyboard alone, on a phone or a desktop, and your stats and unfinished puzzles stay in this browser rather than on a server.
