How to play the space word search
- Twelve space words hide in straight lines in any of the eight directions.
- Drag from the first letter to the last, or tap both in turn.
- A correct find is banded in colour and struck off; wrong picks are ignored.
- Hint marks the first letter of a word you have not found.
- Find them all and the win panel shows your time; New game gives you a new sky.
Space word search strategy
Space words average about six letters, longer than most themes, and the list has a few quirks that make or break a grid.
Letters that stand out
QUASAR has the only Q, and ZODIAC and HORIZON the only Zs. JUPITER has the only J and GALAXY the only X. VACUUM has a rare double U and ANTENNA a double N. Find those first and you often have three or four words in the first minute.
Words inside words
STAR and DUST sit inside STARDUST, METEOR inside METEORITE and NOVA inside SUPERNOVA. The generator never puts both halves of such a pair in one grid, so if METEORITE is in the list there is no separate METEOR, and the run you spotted is part of the longer word. Read to the end before you drag.
Planets in order, and one palindrome
When several planets are listed, say them in order from the Sun and tick them off: MERCURY, VENUS, EARTH, MARS, JUPITER, SATURN, URANUS, NEPTUNE. The U in MERCURY, SATURN and URANUS is worth hunting, since U is less common in the fill than A, E or O. RADAR reads the same both ways, so select it in either direction.
Words in the space word search
The space list has 68 words. Only SUN has three letters; at the other end are six nine-letter words, ASTRONAUT, SATELLITE, TELESCOPE, SUPERNOVA, COUNTDOWN and METEORITE. Everything fits a 10×10 grid, and six-letter words such as PLANET, ROCKET, NEBULA, QUASAR and GALAXY are the most common length.
Half the list looks up: the SUN, MOON and planets, COMET, ASTEROID, METEOR, NEBULA, PULSAR and QUASAR, ECLIPSE, AURORA and TWILIGHT. The other half is about getting there: ROCKET, SHUTTLE, CAPSULE, BOOSTER, THRUSTER, FUEL, LAUNCH, COUNTDOWN and MISSION, and the kit an ASTRONAUT wears, HELMET, SUIT and VISOR. PROBE, ROVER and LANDER cover the robots.
PLUTO is on the list as a dwarf planet, next to the word DWARF itself. SATELLITE has a double L but single Ts, and SHUTTLE a double T. Several words belong to other themes too: TELESCOPE, ORBIT, PLANET and GRAVITY are also in science, and HORIZON in ocean.
Stats, hints and printables
The timer pauses when the tab is hidden, and Space stats (played, won, win rate, best and average time) stay in this browser. The first two hints are free; once ads are enabled, more cost a short ad or a 30-second wait. Every grid has a code such as A7K3Q to replay or share, and the printable page makes space sheets.
Plays anywhere, no app, no account
The space grid scales from a phone to a large monitor, and every letter can be reached with the arrow keys and selected with Space or Enter. Tidy Puzzles runs entirely in your browser: there is no app to install, no account to create and no interstitial before you can play. After the first visit the game also works offline, because each puzzle is generated on your device from a seed. Every board can be played with the keyboard alone, on a phone or a desktop, and your stats and unfinished puzzles stay in this browser rather than on a server.
